Athens Marathon Tour Packages... Athens Greece Marathon Tours!

Marathon, is a town in Greece and the site of the battle of Marathon in 490 BCE, in which the heavily outnumbered Athenian army defeated the Persians. Legend has it that Pheidippides, a Greek herald at the battle, was sent running from Marathon to Athens to announce the victory, which is how the marathon running race was conceived in modern times.

Marathon is an alternative choice for those who want to do something different, not far from Athens. Begin your day with a pickup from your preferred place. Make yourself comfortable in the air-conditioned car or minivan and have a chat with the guide about the tour. The advantage of having a private guide is that any commentary is tailored to your interests. So, feel free to ask any questions you may have.

The Marathon Tomb will be your first stop. Located close to the road, 4 km from the town of Marathon, it is also known as the Tomb of the Athenians. It is the final resting place of the 192 Athenian soldiers who died in the Battle of Marathon. The battle took place in this fertile plain and resulted in the defeat of the Persian army by the hands of the Athenians. It is considered to be one of the most significant moments in European history. Listen to your guide as he recounts the story of this bloody battle that took place here in 490 b.C, during the first Persian invasion of Greece. Learn how these fallen hoplites were cremated and buried in this tomb as a reminder of their sacrifice and bravery.

Your tour will carry on to the site where the myth of the marathon race originates from. Your guide will tell you the fascinating legend of the soldier who ran 26 miles, from Marathon to the city of Athens. As the legend has it, he ran to inform his fellow citizens about their victory over the Persians and collapsed to death upon completing his duty.

You will board your private car and enjoy a short drive through the verdant nature, on the provincial road to the Lake Marathon. At the lake's cafe, you might want to enjoy a drink or a snack (personal consumptions are excluded from the tour price). You will now go for a soothing walk to the Marathon Dam. This is Athens' water reservoir. Apart from the peaceful and romantic view, there is something that makes this structure unique and interesting. This is the only Dam in the world, entirely panelled with pristine white marble. You will be free to walk and explore the area and enjoy its majestic view.

Your private vehicle will be waiting. It will take you back to Athens, to the arranged place. This is our tour Marathon Half Day – Private Tour (Athens Marathon Tour Packages).
